Basil-Thai Nudle Bar @ Bangsar Village

Friday nite out @ Bangsar.
The view from our window seat.

I allowed my stomach to rest for a few days after loading it with spicy curry and rendang during CNY. Till last Friday, I had a hankering for spicy food again so we dropped by Bangsar and look for the hottie (chilli of course).

Basil-Thai Nudle Bar is owned by SEA Cuisine Group of Restaurants. Interesting enough, SEA Cuisine owns over 9 thai restaurants in Malaysia but each restaurant has different name, menu and pricing. Here are some of the thai restaurants: Amarin Heavenly Thai @ Mid Valley, Siam Square @ Berjaya Time Square, Bangkok Jazz & To dine for @ Chulan Square and Bangkok Jam @ Plaza Low Yat.

So far I have visited Amarin and the food was quite good, so I decided to drop by Basil for my bowl of tomyam.

Thai Fish Cakes (RM7.90) as starter, tasted OK, luv the garlic + lime chilli sauce.

Waaa...my Fire Hotpot Seafood Tomyam Soup (RM18.90), came with burning flame and drooling spicy soup, loaded with squids, prawns, mushrooms and fish fillets.

My long lost fren from Singapore--Black Olive Fried Rice (RM12.90). I got hooked with this luscious rice when I took the first bite in a thai restaurant @ Singapore. Hmm...but our comment on this plate of 'oily and not so tasty black olive fried rice' is-- 'not worth the price'. Should have ordered white rice (Rm2.50 per pax *unlimited supply*) to go with my flamming tomyam.

I ordered Kailan with salted fish (RM9.90) and guess what we got on our dining table? Message to Mr. Cook from Basil who can't identify green veges: this is 'choi dam', not kailan la.

To sum up, the food is OK, affordable and the ambience is good. We were seated at a secluded corner--the perfect seat for food bloggers to snap pics of the food without attracting unwanted attention from other patrons ^_^

Planter Jim's@Jalan Telawi 2, Bangsar Baru

This is another post on thai food...hehe...still looking for good and spicy thai cuisine.

Read about meiyen's post on Sri Thai yesterday, then only I recall that I took some pictures at Planter Jim's.
I doubted whether this is a thai restaurant when I first stepped into Planter Jim's. You might have overlooked this restaurant and thought that it is another bistro in Bangsar.
Aside from the traditional thai dishes, Planter Jim's also serves fusion food, ie western + thai.
We didn't order much food that day cus half of our stomachs were occupied by durians...ew, shouldn't have taken so much before dinner @_@
We started off with spicy seafood tomyam soup (RM 41). You can also choose your soup to be cooked with chicken or mushroom. (Xiu Long Bao's tips:Add chilli padis to your tomyam soup to get the extra omphh).
This is good, sour and spicy, with mussels ^_^, squids and prawns to munch on. But abit pricey for 3 servings/ bowls.

We ordered green mango salad (RM14) instead of stir fried greens. Hmmm...looks plain. Tossed with cashew nuts. Tastes blant too. I thought that the mango salad was not sourish enough (or am I too fussy?)
I ordered pineapple fried rice (RM 17) again but this is a rather dissapointing one. It is too oily (as seen in the picture). Sorry Planter Jim's, I have to say that Amarin's pineapple fried rice tastes better.

The last dish to come (while we were too full to speak) was this thai style steamed sea bass/siakap (RM45). Something like teochew steam but a spicy version of it (but still not spicy enough for me la).
Lesson of the day: Do not eat durian before dinner.
I was so full that I didn't get to try Planter Jim's thai desserts.
The bill:RM 157 for 3 persons.
Pricey for sure. A bowl of white rice costs RM3 and a cup of coffee costs RM7.

Amarin Heavenly Thai @ Mid Valley Megamall

Having struggled with potatoes, pumpkins and broccolis for a year in aussie, I am so so so excited cuz now that I’m back to msia for good, its time for wonderful food galore! ^_^
Reading Malaysian food blogs in aussie is simply a torture for my poor little stomach…ooohooo…I miss those yummylicious food so much!

Okay...calm down. Now my stomach is calling for some hot and spicy food and I’m craving for some authentic Thai food. So here we come….Amarin Heavenly Thai restaurant!

I recalled that I had luscious olive rice in Singapore XYZ Thai Restaurant (wahaha…pardon, I forgot the name). To my disappointment, this gorgeous rice is still absentia in Malaysian Thai Restaurants.

Okay cut the crap. Let me show you my scrumptious treat…

1) Pineapple fried rice with prawn (RM 14)

This is simply gorgeous. I wonder how they managed to coat the rice with egg that gives the fried rice a superb yellowish look.

2) Shrimp paste with assorted vege (RM 15)

This came up as a thai-style tempura. A limited portion of fried shrimp paste, some fried long beans, fried cauliflowers, fried aubergines and veges. The serving size seems to be a bit kiam siap but the garlic chilli sauce was fantastic.

3) Chicken green curry (RM 16)

Aside from the heart pumping, lip smacking and mouth watering spicy tomyam soup, Thai curries are not to be missed. The curry served by Amarin is thick but there is ample room for improvement. I reckon that the chef should add more chillies to make it more heart pumping. *yay*

Hmmm...overall review...cozy environment, good service, limited portion, a bit pricey and add more chillies to the curry pls.
