Of Life and Tong Yuen

*Scribbling my table calendar*
It has been 2 months since I moved here for good. Time for personal performance review like what my boss did on me at work. I looked into the mirror and put on a pretentious smile. I have not changed much, didn't I? Except getting 2 more prominent eyebags.
Trying hard to recall any significant achievements in the past 2 months. Perhaps it is the first time I managed to board the right train on the right platform on my own, or the first business that I closed for the company, or even the impressive number of eateries that I have conquered so far (put aside the fact that 90% of the food cannot make it).
Far fetched. Yes I know I'm stretching further and further away from that bowl of tong yuen.
I was feeling rather restless that nite after work, itching for real food, I walked from Clarke Quay to Outram and finally to Chinatown all the way in my 3 inches pumps (with the help of one kind soul in giving direction of course). After strolling around, I stopped in front of this Ah Baling Tong Yuen stall.
I sat down and looked at my big bowl of tong yuen that came with 5 different fillings in peanut soup. All the 5 glutinous rice balls looked the same to me. I sniggered... Isn't life like this? you have no idea what you are going to get next.
True enough, I didn't expect it to be that heart warming.
From peanut, red bean, yam, green tea to sesame fillings. Bit by bit, I wolfed them all down. Life like this, when things turn out to be nasty, people turns out to be ugly, I'll eat it all down.
Bring it on.

It's always weird, isn't it? Adjusting to a new home and working environment. Yet I believe your wanderlust and love for something new will see you through...

... you certainly have the feisty appetite for it! Wolf them down indeed! You go, girl!!

Hang on there young lady! New environment, adjusting to pretty demanding people and culture - I've been thru it myself for the past 14 years and I;m still here. Money's good here if you can look at it as a welcome distraction. Food's CIM here so keep your chin up for your warmer friends across the causeway and of course our yummy food, Good luck!
